Have you ever examined the ingredients of your cleaning products? A lung study showed that using traditional cleaners in your home once a week is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes per day. Even products advertised as “green” or “natural” may contain ingredients that can cause health problems. Some can even be flammable or corrosive.

Laundry and household cleaning products contain toxic fragrances, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ammonia and bleach.

Products Containing Toxic Fragrances:
   > Aerosol spray products, including health, beauty and cleaning products
   > Air fresheners
   > Chlorine bleach
   > Detergent and dishwashing liquid
   > Dry cleaning chemicals
   > Rug and upholstery cleaners
   > Furniture and floor polish
   > Oven cleaners
   > Laundry Products and Dryer Sheets

Chemicals can infiltrate our bodies through two primary avenues......our airways and our skin.

Inhalation:
When you breathe in the smell of these toxic products dangerous VOC’s are sent straight into your blood stream via the lungs. This can attribute to increased risk of asthma and COPD.

The experts attribute the decline in lung function to the damage that cleaning agents cause to the mucous membranes lining the airways. Think about it....these are cleaning agents that are meant for cleaning your floors, your toilets....not your lungs!!

Many cleaning products include propane and butane. These are the same ingredients in "lighter fluid"! The OSHA safety data sheet for the primary active ingredient in one popular antiseptic includes several warnings. I personally do not use a mask, gloves, or goggles when I clean my home nor do I want to.

Your Skin:
Our skin is the largest organ in the body. It absorbs anything and everything it comes into contact with. It takes less than 30 seconds for those toxic chemicals to be absorbed through your skin.

Let's consider fabric softener/dryer sheets.  They do not actually soften anything. They lubricate the fabric with a slimy coating that prevents static and creates the sensation of softness. That slimy coating is made up of a chemical called quaternary ammonium compounds (QACS) that has been shown to cause or worsen asthma, irritate sensitive skin and has been linked to long-term health problems like cancer or reproductive issues.

Are Your Cleaning Products Pet and Child Friendly?
   > What you’re cleaning your floors with...you (and your babies, kids and fur babies) are absorbing through your feet
   > What you’re cleaning your counters with...is being transferred into the food you’re eating
   > What you’re cleaning your bathtub with...you’re soaking your body in
   > What you wash your clothes and bedding in....you’re covering your entire body with
   > Your skin is the largest organ of your body and absorbs everything you put on it

Still keeping your cleaning supplies under lock and key to protect your kids and fur babies? Have you been wanting to find a safer alternative? You can absolutely utilize options that are safe, effective, and economical. This is what I use to literally clean everything....floors, mirrors, counters, tub and even my fruits and vegetables. These products are 100% plant-based and have been shown to have antibacterial and antiviral capabilities.
