If you are having trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep, or staying awake during the day.....the solution may be found in your organ clock.

Perhaps you may have heard of the internal "body clock"?  Well, in oriental medicine, an organ clock is where each organ is assigned a 2 hr window and has the responsibility to promote an internal balance with the body's vital energy.  If that organ is experiencing an imbalance or overload ..... toxins or emotions ..... it can't do it's job.  As a result you may just find yourself waking up at all hours of the night.

Check Your Liver
Waking up between 1-3 in the morning?  It could just mean your liver needs some time away from the extra stressors it has been experiencing such as alcohol.  Perhaps try to reduce the exposure to unnecessary toxins.  Sometimes a mild detox may be suggested.

Deep-rooted emotions such as frustration and anger are particular stressors for the liver.  I have personally found it beneficial to apply this over the liver/gallbadder area every night.

Check Your Lungs
What if you find yourself waking between 3-5 in the morning?  This is an imbalance in your lungs....either respiratory problems or emotional disturbances that need to be let go such as grief.  There are several different approaches to clearing away emotions such as grief.  You might want to give this one a try.

Why Sleep Is So Important
Whether it is short-term or long-term.....lack of sleep definitely wreaks havoc on our body.

It can affect our ability to focus, remember, increases stress and can even increase the risk of having a car accident.

Long-term sleep deprivation affects our body in an even more profound way:
  • Increased blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • heart attack/heart failure
  • stroke
  • obesity
  • mood swings
  • decreased immunity
  • increased cortisol means premature aging of skin
So, if you are asking yourself ... "Why can't I sleep"?  It is really important to try to get to the root cause. So, the next time you wake up during the night, check your organ clock.  It just may be needing an adjustment.
