Are you a coffee lover?

Are you a coffee lover?
If you are a coffee lover, it will probably be difficult for you to grasp what I am about to say.......... I cannot handle the smell of black coffee.... especially in a small or enclosed area. 🤢

A Little History

I grew up around coffee. I was my mother’s companion for her daily trip to the “truck stop” for her morning cup of coffee. When I was in high school, I decided to try coffee and see what all the “hoop-la” was about.

I sat down one Saturday night in the local diner and ordered a cup of black coffee. Even though my mom drank hers with sugar and cream, I added only sugar as I am not a cream lover. To say it tasted awful is a true understatement. I added more sugar …. then more. You can only imagine how that sweet concoction tasted!

That brings us back to the present and my current situation. I, unfortunately, have a husband who likes his occasional cup of black coffee.

Pumpkin Spice

I happened to notice a natural “pumpkin spice” recipe. My husband normally does not like “flavored” coffee; however, he was willing to give it a try. He added a small amount to the grounds while brewing and loved how it tasted.

There was, however, an added benefit. NO … MORE … COFFEE … SMELL!!

The Difference is in the Energy

Albert Einstein said it best … “Everything is energy”.

There is energy literally in everything... plants, radio waves, EEG, EKG, microwaves, cell phones, our bodies... all the way down to individual molecules. Frequency is the rate (measured in MHz) in which energy flows.

The frequency for a healthy human is 62 MHz to 70 MHz. This frequency, however, is in constant flux through the foods we eat and drink, our behavior, thoughts and emotions.

Coffee, for example, is considered a “low quality food” as far as frequency is concerned. The caffeine in coffee re-creates stress conditions in the body because it increases the cortisol and epinephrine levels. Stress decreases frequency.

Studies have shown that just holding a cup of coffee can drop the frequency from 66 MHz to 58 MHz in just seconds. We are more susceptible to colds at 58 MHz. Drinking a cup of coffee lowers the frequency to 52 MHz where we begin to be more susceptible to illnesses. It takes 3 days to bring the frequency back to normal.

Highest Frequency Available

What is in the “Pumpkin Spice” blend that gave me NO … MORE … COFFEE … SMELL? Essential oils... they contain the highest frequencies of any natural substances ranging from 42 MHz to 580 MHz.

It only makes sense that something of a higher frequency will “raise the bar” for something that is a lower frequency. Here is the recipe I used:

Pumpkin Spice Coffee Blend
9 💧 Cinnamon Bark Vitality
9 💧 Ginger Vitality
6 💧 Nutmeg Vitality
6 💧 Clove Vitality
4 💧 Orange Vitality
Combine in a 5ml bottle. Add 1-2 drops to coffee grounds or directly to your coffee.
(NOTE: I can only confirm these results using Young Living essential oils)

BONUS: My husband is NOT a lover of flavored coffee. But he said “It takes away all the negative of coffee.... just makes it better”.

Noodling Around

Noodling Around
The other day, when I was shopping for some food items on the internet, I couldn’t help but realized how things have changed.

Let’s face it....grocery shopping isn’t what it used to be. Take macaroni for example. There may have been a few different brands but they were all basically made with the same ingredients....fortified semolina or durum wheat. They could be found in any store....displayed proudly on the shelves where a box could easily be grabbed and tossed into the shopping cart.

My preferred brand of choice? Creamette, of course. It is what my mom used.

Gluten-Free
Then came the era of allergies, food sensitivities, diet changes and food limitations. Creamettes were to be no more. Now, the search was on for "gluten-free". No longer was it a quick trip to Copps or Piggly-Wiggly.

A quick in and out was now a thing of the past. Every trip now required a thorough search of ingredients of every “gluten-free” box of noodles....only to find out it had not been manufactured in a “dedicated gluten-free" facility. And, so, the search continued.

Most products used white rice or corn as a substitute for the glutinous ingredients of wheat, barley, rye and oats. However, rice and corn only added empty calories and carbs. We all know what that adds up to!

Grain-Free
In no time necessity required gluten-free to be replaced with “grain-free". However, time also brought a revolution to how foods were being made. Now, foods with new and different flours were being introduced....chickpea, black bean, lentils. And, let’s not forget the nuts and seeds....almond, cashew, pecans, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, sunflower. The list could go on and on. It would seem a whole new world of banquet eating had just opened up!

Enter AIP (Auto-Immune Paleo)
Not familiar with an AIP diet? I am so happy for you because, hopefully, you do not need it!! 😂😂

Seriously, though, it is a way of eating that focuses on reducing the inflammation that people with auto-immune disorders tend to have by removing “inflammatory” foods from the diet. These foods include nuts, seeds, grains, dairy, and nightshades. For me eggs are also excluded. No more banquet of new foods for me!

The Internet
Many people find the internet to be a quick and convenient way of shopping.

What if someone wants macaroni and cheese and can’t wait for it to be shipped? No worries. Creamettes can still easily be found on your local grocery store shelves. And, don’t forget the ketchup for the mac ‘n’ cheese. (You know who you are.)

Internet is Quick?....Let me tell you....I entered a search for “grain-free” noodles....30 mins later I found an acceptable macaroni that had only 2 ingredients.

Frustration and Anxiety
Emotions play such a huge part in our health. Imagine how frustrating it is using all that time just for one item.…and, still may not find what you are looking for.

Perhaps, you are wanting to travel. Do you know what it is like to look at a restaurant menu and not be able to find something to order? Or, maybe it is gluten-free but not grain-free....or, grain-free but not dairy-free. “yes”, they say...we have grain-free buns and noodles”. Your excitement starts to build only to wane because they are made with almond flour or lentils or eggs.

Sadly, grocery shopping and meal preparation is no longer quick or easy. But this does not mean we are left to wallow in our sorrow. Sometimes, it just requires a fresh, new approach and perspective to gain back that freedom to enjoy life again.

So, the next time you see me on my phone for hours....I’m probably doing my grocery shopping. And, by the way, I was quite thrilled with my newly discovered, 2-ingredient, grain-free macaroni noodles. 👍

When Life Throws You Lemons .... Make Ketchup!!

When Life Throws You Lemons .... Make Ketchup!!
When I was growing up it seemed only natural that every meal was served with the Classic American Condiment …. ketchup (or catsup as some know it).

Ketchup Eating Styles:

I personally enjoyed ketchup on scrambled eggs. But better yet were potato chips. After coming home from school, I would grab some potato chips and squirt ketchup on them before popping into my mouth ....one ....savory ....chip ....at a time. 😋

We cannot forget the ketchup sandwich eater (you know who you are). This requires one slice of white bread with ketchup squirted on half of the bread and then carefully fold the slice of bread in half.

And, of course, there are the saucy ketchup eaters. They cannot eat ketchup alone. It must be mixed with something else like mayo or horseradish.

Last but not least are the “dry” eaters … those that wouldn’t touch the stuff with a ten-foot pole …. unless, of course, it was added to their burger without their knowledge. (It was the fastest eaten burger ever …. you know who you are 😂)

A Little History:

Originally “Catsup” was made without any tomatoes by the British. It actually referred to any “spiced” sauce. The original recipe contained oysters, cloves, cayenne, cherries, walnuts, vinegars, mace and more.

It was the Americans who added tomatoes and changed the name to “ketchup”. It was declared "America’s National Condiment” in 1896 to be found on every table in the land. The NASA program even sent it into space with the Astronauts.

When Life Throws You Lemons …. Make Ketchup!!

As much as I love ketchup, it is, unfortunately, a nightshade vegetable. This means it can be an inflammatory food for some. 🙋‍♀️ Yep …. that’s me.

So, what does a person do when tomatoes become lemons?

Well, I could do the “whoa is me” routine and focus on what I can’t do. That just is not my style. I am more the half-glass full kind of person. There is always more than one way of doing everything and food is no different. When life throws you lemons …. you make ketchup.

Here is a recipe I use and it is a good one. In fact, since it doesn't contain any tomatoes, could it be the original "Catsup"?  Of course, it does not contain any "oysters" either! 😝 Be sure to use the exact amounts or one flavor will overpower the others. I will say I also added some ground allspice and an additional drop of clove essential oil.
Yep, this is great on burgers. I am sure it is great on eggs, chips, and in those special sauces too!

Identify Your Triggers: How Safe Are Your Laundry/Cleaning Products?

Identify Your Triggers: How Safe Are Your Laundry/Cleaning Products?
A lung study showed that using traditional cleaners in your home one time a week is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes per day. Even products advertised as “green” or “natural” may contain ingredients that can cause health problems. Some can even be flammable or corrosive.

Laundry and household cleaning products contain toxic fragrances, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ammonia and bleach.

Some of these products include:
   > Aerosol spray products, including health, beauty and cleaning products
   > Air fresheners
   > Chlorine bleach
   > Detergent and dishwashing liquid
   > Dry cleaning chemicals
   > Rug and upholstery cleaners
   > Furniture and floor polish
   > Oven cleaners
   > Laundry Products and Dryer Sheets

Chemicals can infiltrate our bodies through two primary avenues......our airways and our skin.

Inhalation:
When you breathe in the smell of these toxic products dangerous VOC’s are sent straight into your blood stream via the lungs. This can attribute to increased risk of asthma and COPD.

The experts attribute the decline in lung function to the damage that cleaning agents cause to the mucous membranes lining the airways. Think about it....these are cleaning agents that are meant for cleaning your floors, your toilets....not your lungs!!

Consider Lysol. The product label itself states “Hazards to Humans and Domestic Animals.” That’s reassuring. Approximately 1% of the product consists of the active ingredients, while about 99% are “other ingredients”. This begs the question, what exactly are those “other” ingredients? According to the Safety Data Sheet for Lysol, these include propane and butane....think lighter fluids friends!!

The OSHA safety data sheet for the primary active ingredient in Lysol includes several warnings. I don’t know about you but I do not wear a mask, gloves, or goggles when I clean my home.

Your Skin:
Our skin is the largest organ in the body. It absorbs anything and everything it comes into contact with. It takes less than 30 seconds for those toxic chemicals to be absorbed through your skin.

The thing with fabric softener/dryer sheets is that it doesn’t actually soften anything. Instead, it lubricates the fabric with a slimy coating that prevents static and creates the sensation of softness. That slimy coating is made up of a chemical called quaternary ammonium compounds (QACS) that has been shown to cause or worsen asthma, irritate sensitive skin and has been linked to long-term health problems like cancer or reproductive issues.

Consider This:
   > What you’re cleaning your floors with...you (and your babies, kids and fur babies) are absorbing through your feet
   > What you’re cleaning your counters with...is being transferred into the food you’re eating
   > What you’re cleaning your bathtub with...you’re soaking your body in
   > What you wash your clothes and bedding in....you’re covering your entire body with
   > Your skin is the largest organ of your body and absorbs everything you put on it

You can absolutely utilize options that are safe, effective, and economical. There is no compromise here. This is what I use to literally clean everything....floors, mirrors, counters, tub and even produce.

Identify Your Triggers: How is Your "Inside" Air Quality?

Identify Your Triggers: How is Your "Inside" Air Quality?
A 2017 article published this statement:

More than 90 percent of the world’s population lives in a place where the outdoor air quality is harmful to human health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

This is a pretty astonishing statement in itself. Yet, The World Health Organization states the inside air quality of our homes and businesses is even 5 times more polluted than the outdoor air we breathe.

Air Fresheners:
During the 1990s, air fresheners became extremely popular with the hassle-free and affordable “plug-ins”. How convenient to just allow the scented gels to release their fragrance throughout the day....no longer needing to grab that aerosol spray “as the need arose”. They seemed to be the perfect alternative to the aerosol sprays that were damaging the ozone layer.

With these “convenient” plug-in air fresheners, however, come an astonishing number of toxic compounds. These contribute to that poor inside air quality and second-hand smoke effect.

Besides the fragrance with its unknown hundreds of toxic ingredients, plug-ins and other air fresheners have also been found to contain phthalates, naphthalene and .... are you ready for this......formaldehyde!!

These are known carcinogens and hormone-disruptors that can affect our reproductive and respiratory systems. Besides birth defects they can also contribute to asthma, frequent nosebleeds and allergic symptoms.

As if all of this was not enough, plug-in air fresheners also contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs)…...of which formaldehyde is one of the worst. VOCs are known irritants of eyes, nose and throat, can damage the liver, kidney and central nervous system, as well as, cause headaches, fatigue, and dizziness.

Scented Candles:
Don’t you just love the ambiance of lighted candles in a room? They can certainly set the mood.
Unfortunately, those very same candles pose a threat to our air quality.
> Most are made from paraffin, which is a petroleum waste.
> Burning candles create soot. Soot contains tiny particulate matter that can be inhaled and is an irritant.
> There are toxins in the synthetic fragrance!

Children and Animals:
On an average it takes only 2 seconds for a smell to reach the brain.

Children and pets breathe the same air we do, however, keep in mind their bodies are smaller and their metabolisms are different. If we are breathing in toxins .... so are they. In actuality, the FDA has zero safety protocols for children’s products.

“According to the World Health Organization, half of deaths among children under 5 years old related to lower respiratory infections can be directly linked to 'particulate matter' present in indoor air pollution".

For those who have pets (or other sources of household odor), the use of air fresheners may feel essential— but this doesn’t mean your only option is to purchase the toxic varieties.

You do have freedom to choose which means you can have freedom from toxins. If weather permits, open windows and bring in the fresh air.

Another option is using an essential oil diffuser. We like this one. Your house will smell great but without all those toxins.

Have you had an experience with air fresheners or scented candles? I would love to hear it!
