In Traditional Chinese Medicine each organ is associated with specific emotions. When these emotions are repressed and not managed appropriately, the corresponding organs can become "stuck", "deficient", and unable to function properly causing symptoms that could lead to serious disease and illness.
So, how does anger and frustration affect your eyes, skin, body aches and pains, and digestion? Both of these emotions are associated with the Liver which is a key player in the breakdown, metabolism and detoxification of fats, hormones, dietary toxins and environmental toxins like pesticides and industrial chemicals. Basically, the liver detoxifies your blood which will again flow back througout the body nourishing it.
Emotionally, stress affects all organ systems. However, the Liver is where is all starts. Stress and blocked emotions are the most common contributors to blocked Liver "qi" or energy. This creates an "imbalance" in the Liver which can eventually lead to "stagnation". Have you ever seen stagnant water? It is gross.... covered with thick, green sludge.... and smells even worse.
Nothing gets moved out. A "stagnant Liver" is like stagnant water. Imagine, a "stagnant" Liver.... your liver.... trying to process and move out all of the toxic sludge from your body. This is exactly what can happen when emotions, like anger, irritation, frustration, or resentment, are repeatedly repressed or are not allowed time to "deal with them". Feeling these emotions in excess or not feeling them at appropriate times would also indicate an imbalance. How thankful we should all be that our bodies give us warning signs that something is not functioning properly.
Liver stagnation warning signs
- Symptoms worse in Spring: pollens are increased causing more for the liver to filter
- Hay Fever
- PMS and painful cramps (the liver stores, cleanses and ensures the smooth flow blood and "qi" throughout the body)
- Helps regulate digestion
- Acid reflux
- Abdominal distention
- Skin issues including acne
- Headaches/Dizziness/High Blood Pressure
- Sleep issues: waking between 1am - 3am (learn more about your Organ Clock here)
- Tendonitis, Carpal Tunnel, Plantar Fasciitis
- Stiff neck and shoulders
- Muscle discomforts
- Changes in hair, nails and eye strength
Clearly, anger and frustration can have an affect on your eyes, skin, body aches, pains and digestion. Whatever the reason.... a tramatic past experience, death, relationships, or outside triggers like industrial toxins.... the important thing is to find a way to release these emotions. This can definitely be a process, however, my free guide can help you with lifestyle changes and figuring out your triggers.
